Umpire Services

Resolving a complex property insurance dispute requires careful evaluation of the evidence, a thorough understanding of property damage and construction costs, and an impartial approach to resolving differences in valuation.
With more than 25 years of experience spanning insurance adjusting, construction, estimating, and large-loss claims, Daniel Deagen brings extensive technical knowledge to property damage disputes. When serving as an umpire, he independently evaluates the information presented, considers differences between the appraisers, and works to resolve disputed property damage valuations in accordance with the applicable policy and appraisal process.

Umpire Services

When the appraisers cannot agree, the policy's appraisal process may provide for an umpire to help resolve disputed valuation items. When serving as an umpire, Daniel approaches the assignment impartially, evaluates the information presented by the appraisers, and performs the duties required by the applicable policy and process.

A Clear Distinction in Roles

Appraisal, umpire, and expert witness assignments are distinct engagements with different responsibilities. The role, scope of work, and applicable independence or impartiality requirements are evaluated for each assignment. Pivotal accepts these engagements only when the assignment is appropriate and applicable licensing, contractual, and conflict-of-interest requirements can be satisfied.
Regardless of the engagement, our work is grounded in technical knowledge, careful documentation, and a clear understanding of property damage and construction costs.
